Gordon D. Fox

Representative Gordon D. Fox is serving his third term as Majority Leader, as elected by his Democratic colleagues. It is the second highest ranking position in the House. He has served as a member of the House of Representatives since January 1993, representing District 4 in the diverse Mount Hope, Summit and Blackstone neighborhoods of Providence.

Leader Fox, who previously served as the chairman of the House Finance Committee, was the sponsor of several significant bills to have successfully passed the House. He was the author of legislation which bans smoking in nearly all public places in Rhode Island, including restaurants, most bars, and private businesses.

He also drafted a successful amendment which enabled the House passage of legislation which would protect domestic violence victims from their abusers by requiring individuals who are the subject of permanent restraining orders to surrender any guns in their possession.

Leader Fox was a prime sponsor of the increase in the minimum wage. He also sponsored the Neighborhood Opportunities Program, which are affordable housing initiatives.

Majority Leader Fox, 45, is a lifelong resident of Providence. A graduate of Rhode Island College and Northeastern University School of Law, he is a self-employed attorney in Providence.
