The entire service was not only moving, but incredibly stimulating. Being in that elegant, colonial church where his family has worshipped for generations while listening to the leaders of our time praise Senator Pell, was an honor. I am grateful to have known him and seen history through his eyes and theirs.

Senator Pell made all Rhode Islanders powerful. He gave our small Amnesty International chapter unwavering support and access. I know his name alone lent critical power to our campaigns to protect and free political prisoners in many nations, from communist Eastern Europe to apartheid South Africa and dictatorships all around the globe. Rhode Island activists for peace, for human rights and social justice had the same experience. By using his both his unearned advantages and earned positions to their fullest for others, he inspired and empowered all of us. He treated our work as important and worthy of his engaged attention and assistance. By honoring our efforts as citizens , Senator Pell gave us all courage and heart to try to change the world.

My deepest condolences to the Pell family.

thank you chairman Lynch for making this poignant video available to us. I never met the senator, having grown up in connecticut, but having seen the remarkably heartfelt tributes causes me to understand the deep appreciation and love that Ocean Staters have for this great statesman.

When Senator Pell first ran for the U.S.Senate, it was my families first time volunteering for a campaign. My husband Bob my young son David, just believed in Mr. Pell. He went on to greatness in the senate, and made us all proud.
Our deep condolences to his family.

When I think of Senator Pell's passing, I think of the Irish saying, "We will not see his like again." and I fear this is true.

I will remember Senator Pell as a fantastic human being and a champion for us all.

My condolences to the Pell, Lynch and Perna families.

To the family of Senetor: My most sincere condolences at the loss of this great man. In my life and those of my children he will never be forgotten. He did a favor for me about 12 years ago that we have locked in our hearts and minds. Senator Pell treated everyone he met with dignity and respect that made you feel respect for yourself. As long as I live I will have a thought in my head and a prayer on my lips for one of the greatest men who ever lived.
Be at peace for he walks with the Lord now.
