Growing the 'Netroots'

R.I. Democrats launch innovative new Website

Fresh features highlight Lynch's commitment to strengthening outreach efforts

PAWTUCKET- Recognizing the growing impact of 'netroot' activism and organizing at every level of politics, Rhode Island Democratic Party Chairman Bill Lynch today launched the new www.RIDEMOCRATS.org, a website with fresh features meant to engage party-enthusiasts from all across the state.

"Nowadays, people are relying on the Internet more and more for their news and information...We're embracing new technology to bring people closer to the Democratic leaders who are working hard to make a difference at every level of government," Lynch is quoted as saying in the first-ever RI Dem podcast, which appeared Wednesday on the new Website.

The podcast is the first of what Lynch says will be regular video messages highlighting Democratic priorities and periodically answering questions from party members.

"I'm really excited, we spent a lot of time re-designing this Website and making sure it is user-friendly. Most importantly, we want the site to be a real resource for Democrats looking to learn more about what's happening in their party, and how they can become more involved," Lynch said. Other new features include:

  • "Democrat of the Week" Field Director Gabe Amo heads out on the campaign trail each week to speak with Democrats who are working to make a difference in their community or have helped advance the ideals of the Democratic Party. His first podcast is an interesting interview with Milton Bronstein, who at the age of 90, has spent a lifetime helping to elect Democrats at every level of government.
  • A Blog Called Hope A web log (blog) has been added to give members the opportunity to comment on the news of the day.
  • The Newsroom RI Democrats will now be able to catch the latest print, radio and TV news from Democrats making headlines both here and in Washington, D.C.
  • An opportunity to get involved With the 2008 election just around the corner, the RI Democratic Party is currently recruiting volunteers looking to get involved in the process. The Website announces the formation of new caucuses and promotes volunteer and college internship opportunities.
