STATEMENT BY RI DEMOCRATIC PARTY ON REP. PRICE’S PARTICIPATION IN LAST WEEK’S RIOTS AT U.S. CAPITOL; CALLS FOR HIS RESIGNATION

WARWICK, RI – “Less than a week has passed since the sickening and violent assault on our democracy at our U.S. Capitol, and there are still many questions about how it happened and who was involved, including Rhode Island’s state Representative, Justin Price. The actions taken Wednesday – and in the days leading up to it – make every person involved complicit in treasonous acts and the senseless, violent deaths of a Capitol police officer and four other individuals,” said the RI Democratic Party senior adviser, T. Kevin Olasanoye, Tuesday.
“Justin Price took an oath of office as a state representative to uphold the Constitution of this country and the laws of this state. What did he think was going to happen in (Washington,) D.C. the day of the Electoral College, when the president was calling on his most die-hard followers to go to the Capitol? They certainly weren’t there to celebrate democracy. The crowds of marchers, carrying weapons and Confederate flags, were not there to honor the peaceful transfer of power: they were there to raise arms against a ‘free and fair election’ that didn’t work out their way,” he said.
“In the meantime, we await the results of the F.B.I. and Rhode Island U.S. Attorney’s office investigations, I am asking Mr. Price to take a hard look at his sworn responsibilities to this state and nation, make a sincere apology to the people of Rhode Island and his district, and resign from the office immediately,” Olasanoye said.
