WARWICK, R.I. (June 18, 2020) – “We applaud today’s United States Supreme Court decision, led by Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., to protect some 700,000 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients, allowing them to remain in our country, to work and accept certain federal benefits. The high Court’s action is a clear rejection of President Trump’s divisive and heartless prejudiced actions; the second such rejection of Trump’s cruel actions this week (LGBTQ+).

“That decision – made possible by our Chief Justice aligning with four other justices – demonstrates that justice can prevail. Our great nation was founded by immigrants, and strengthened and prospered as a world leader because of immigrants. Indeed, Mr. Trump’s own family members have benefited by their immigration.

“We applaud the efforts of the nation’s highest court to protect those who moved here under the DACA and DAPA rulings. As Justice Roberts noted in his decision, the agency (who opposed DACA) failed to comply with “the procedural requirement that it provide a reasoned explanation for its action. Here the agency failed to consider the conspicuous issues of whether to retain forbearance and what if anything to do about the hardship to DACA recipients…”
