STATEMENT BY R.I. DEMOCRATIC PARTY CHAIR JOSEPH MCNAMARA ON THE RECENT SPATE OF OPPORTUNISTIC VIOLENCE, IN THE WAKE OF PEACEFUL DEMONSTRATIONS OVER THE DEATH OF GEORGE FLOYD

WARWICK, R.I. (June 2, 2020) – “The tragic and senseless death of Minneapolis resident George Floyd has been followed by many peaceful marches and demonstrations nationwide, reminding us of the bigotry and hatred Black and Brown people have faced for generations,” said Joseph M. McNamara, Rhode Island Democratic Party Chair Tuesday evening. “That is their right and we wholeheartedly support them. But what we do not support is the other, well-organized group of cowardly, violent criminals, who are using this moment of national mourning and reflection to prey on America’s cities and towns and their shops and small businesses.

“It is intolerable and every right-minded American needs to stand up and speak out against these cowardly criminals,” he said. “We need to show the world that America is still the land of the free and the brave.”
